This week we are talking about our article on what it is like writing sex toy reviews. Written by Joanne Summers.
Before we get started I have a couple of rants I needed to get off my chest.
This years women's chess championships are due to take place in Iran, a country not exactly praised for its treatment of women. A number of players are calling for a boycott of the event, and they might just have a point.
But it opened up another question which was.. why is there even a women's championship? It's not like chess is a physical sport, the genders can easily compete fairly in this. So not just have a single championship open to all?
Update: There is an interesting take on it and why it is a positive thing in the Guardian as well. There are two sides to this.
There is a new version of the Rocky Horror show put out by Fox as a live-ish even last week. While I have only seen a few bits of it, from everything I have seen they have totally missed the mark. Utterly destroying the entire premise of what this show is all about.
It was really interesting to get Joanne's take on what it takes for her to create a review. One of the things we love about Joanne is how much effort she puts into her reviews. Not just trying it out once, but trying every toy at least 10 times, taking notes, photographing it, etc.
To make sure she gets everything she can out of that toy to give an honest review.
Cara Sutra is another great blogger/journalist we have worked with in the past and love dearly. She works at this 7 days a week and it is hard work. She wrote a great article on why it is so insulting for a company to ask her to write for free.
Having any blog is hard, doing good reviews is hard. Nothing about this is easy and the ones who do it are great.
If you enjoy erotica then checkout The Kiss Me Quicks Erotica Podcast with Rose Caraway. It's a great listen and a lot of fun.
This week we are talking about disability and sexuality based on the article written for us byErryn Embers. We asked Erryn if she would write about it for use because her other half is a wheel chair user and we know she has some very strong and well thought out opinions about it.
Erryn is also a Cam Girl and has written about it for us previously and did a great job.
She makes the great point that disability isn't talked about in sex education. It is hard to normalise it if it isn't discussed. This is a huge failing in the education of children because they need to be shown that it is just as normal as anything else.
One of the questions she gets a lot is "How does it work"? You would never dreama about asking another couple how do you two have sex, why would you think it is OK to ask about them?
It also doesn't mean one of them has a special attraction to someone with a disability just becuase of their disability. It is totally possible to love someone because of who they are. They are a normal person just like everyone else, they just happen to have challenges.
There is something wrong in society that looks at people who are different as a object that is defined only by that thing. That isn't treating a person with the respect they deserve.
We spotted this during the parolympics and it is a campaign by scope. But we find it hard to see the funny side in treating adults like children.
We understand what they are trying to say, and of course we totally support it. But for us the humor misses the mark and just comes off a stupid. No one I have ever met would have any problem with someone with a disability in their work place. This sort of behaviour doesn't exist.
This week we are talking about non-fiction erotica based on the article written for us by Molly Moore. You can check out here web site and see some of her great photography.
This weekend (Saturday 15th October) we will be at Smut Manchester. Where we are going to be teaching people how to make their own fun things in latex.
Make sure you have nominated your favorite sex blogs. Molly is actually running this years top 100 sex blogs and collecting together all the nominations.
We love it because it isn't based on popularity, only quality. So having a huge following doesn't help you win, you have to good.
Make sure you have nominated your favorites.
Something that is true about any blog is that doing it consistently is really hard. You would think just writting words would be easy but it really isn't the case. Being consistent is even harder.
Sometime it is really easy to write a post, it just flows out of you like the one I did for EAN magazine. But othertimes it just doesn't want to come. Those are the times it is really hard.
Check out Stephen King's 20 tips for becoming a frighteningly good writter.
She really started it for herself because she was exploring who she was. It is that personal feel that makes it so successful.
It is the personal and open side that makes it so interesting and fun to read. Because it isn't there to try and sell you something but just tell you who she is.
You need to decide if you aree OK putting yourself out there because some people are going to use it to put you down.
But that is true no matter what you put out into the world. It just so happens a sex blog is a little more personal and so can be more painful.
It is something you need to think about if you do put yourself out there and make sure you are prepared for it.
Just because you write a blog it doesn't mean you have to show it too the world, just as you can be totally anonymous if you want to be.

This week we talk about the idea of erotic sketing, and the fun of going to a workshop and learning how to do it. You don't have to be an amazing artist. Anyone can come along and give it a try.
What is really nice about doing sketching is you don't have to be great at drawing to do it. It is about the process and understanding how to see the human form.
In the article Victoria also suggest some ideas on how you could even bring erotic sketching into your play at home.
